Mark Consuelos on Wife Kelly Ripa’s Retirement Remarks: ‘She’s Been at That for 23 Years’

Kelly Ripa, 52, sent shockwaves through the Live with Kelly and Mark fanbase when she revealed that she is considering retirement from the daytime talk show (don’t worry—she’s not going anywhere just yet). So, what does her husband/co-host, Mark Consuelos, think about her comments?

In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Tonight, the Riverdale alum addressed Ripa’s previous remarks on retirement, where she shared her true thoughts about stepping away from Live one day. While Consuelos doesn’t think his wife is going to say goodbye to hosting daytime television “anytime soon,” he believes it is a “real thing.”

“She’s been at that for 23 years,” he told the outlet. “I don't think it’s gonna be anytime soon. I know she’s having a good time, I’m having a really, really good time. But at some point, yeah.”

Back in April, Consuelos replaced Ripa’s former Live co-host, Ryan Seacrest, who announced that he was leaving the show after hosting for six seasons. And as a result, the show went from Live with Kelly and Ryan to Live with Kelly and Mark.

Since joining the show as co-host, Consulous has been having a blast working alongside his wife. But, if she decided to leave the show, the 52-year-old actor shared that “no one’s earned it more than her.” Thankfully, that day is not today.

“She’s been working her butt off since she was like 12 or 13 years old, and she got into the business at 18, and so it's been a long ride,” he continued. “[But] she’s having a blast now.”

Last month, Ripa sat down for an interview with The Purist and shared her thoughts on retiring from Live when that time comes. “I don’t intend to work at this job for the rest of my life,” she shared with the publication. “I do talk about retirement with great interest, but right now I’m very happy, especially working with Mark.”

Well, that’s a relief.
