Mario Lopez Says He Is Open to Playing a Villainous Role

Bayside High's A.C. Slater is ready to trade in his coaching gear for a (temporary) journey to the dark side, and we're definitely intrigued.

PureWow had the pleasure of sitting down with TV personality Mario Lopez, who recently teamed up with Frito-Lay Variety Pack for their latest campaign, “Unbox The Icons.” And during the discussion, Lopez talked about his desire to venture into new genres.

Though Lopez is best known for Saved by the Bell and his feel-good comedy films, he revealed that he’s still open to exploring different genres—especially those with more serious roles. “I love doing different drama stuff,” he said. “With all my hosting duties, it’s hard to fit other projects in there, but I try to when I can. I feel very fortunate.”

He continued, “I don’t discriminate when it comes to different types of roles to take on. I’ll try to do it all. There are no rules.”

When asked if he’d ever play a villain, without missing a beat, he said, “Sure! Bad guys or anything super out there.” Sounds like this Saved by the Bell alum is more than ready to show off his acting range.

But in addition to his on-screen career, the host also dished on the two shows he’s been watching—and they share an interesting connection. He said, “I just binged the last season of Better Call Saul, and then I went right into the latest season of Ozark. I feel like I’m always watching the same show because they’re dealing with Mexican cartel. I like seeing Latinos on TV, but [I’ve seen] a lot of drug lords lately. High-level ones at that, but they’re great shows. Love them both.”

It may be a while until we get to see Lopez portray a diabolical character, but until then, we’ll bide our time with these amazing TV recommendations.
