Marilyn Monroe’s Cookbooks from the 1950s Are Going Up for Auction

You can tell what kind of person someone is based on the kind of cookbooks they have. Whether you’ve got cookbooks with recipes that span the world or modern classics that make the most of today’s ingredients, that collection speaks volumes about your cooking character.

Now, you might be able to learn a lot about the blonde bombshell if you bid on the Marilyn Monroe cookbook collection at auction. The pages of each cookbook are filled with personal items that are incredibly intriguing.

What’s in Marilyn Monroe’s Cookbooks?

The two cookbooks for sale right now are The New Fanny Farmer Boston Cooking-School Cook Book and The New Joy of Cooking. Both were published sometime in the 1950s and are in pretty great shape considering they’re upwards of seven decades old! The reason cookbooks are often so interesting is due to their personal nature—everyone needs to eat, and everyone has their own family with their own personal family recipes and ways of cooking. No two cookbooks are ever filled with the same annotations!

Marilyn’s cookbooks include handwritten notes, recipes for dishes such as bone marrow soup and beef bourguignon, a personalized grocery list (the note I find the most interesting), newspaper clippings for recipes, a deli business card with an address to match and a typed diet list. She usually had orange juice or prunes for breakfast, lots of carbs for lunch and a choice of meat for dinner. She also loved her 11 p.m. scheduled eggnog.

Don’t miss our full list of Marilyn Monroe’s favorite foods.

The Bids Will Be Incredible

This Marilyn Monroe cookbook collection is expected to sell for between $50,000 and $75,000! Siegel Auctions will host a live auction on June 22, so those hoping to get a hand on these one-of-a-kind cookbooks should make a decision quickly. Let’s be honest though, her handwritten notes will always be priceless.
