Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell's upcoming movie A Big Bold Beautiful Journey has received an exciting update.

Robbie has had a great past 12 months given the success of Barbie, and her success could continue with this fantasy romance film.

Sony Pictures has now acquired the worldwide rights to it, which comes as a major deal from the European Film Market in Berlin.

The movie will be directed by South Korean filmmaker Kogonada, who worked with Farrell on sci-fi drama After Yang. Meanwhile, The Menu's Seith Reiss has written the script.

This will be another genre-blending project as it is a fantasy romance that is being reported as "an imaginative tale of two strangers and the extraordinary emotional journey that connects them."

Production will reportedly kick off this spring in California. Tom Rothman, the chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures' Motion Picture Group, said in a statement: "Every once in a great while in this job you read a script so special and original, that you fly to the last page, inspired and uplifted."

"A Big Bold Beautiful Journey by Seth Reiss, is such a script and together with the superb director Kogonada, the perfect cast of Colin and Margot, and top flight producers Bradley Thomas, Dan Friedkin and Ryan Friedkin, it is a project from heaven. We believe the audience is desperate for originality and we feel honored and grateful to all involved to have won out for it.'

The production company Imperative Entertainment said: "We are thrilled to partner again with our good friend Tom Rothman and the great team at Sony. We are big believers in the theatrical experience, which is Sony’s specialty, and we’re excited Kogonada’s creation will be enjoyed on the big screen."

While this has been a great year for Robbie, she did miss out on an Oscar nomination for her role in the billion-dollar movie Barbie. She recently opened up about that snub.

"There's no way to feel sad when you know you're this blessed," Robbie said.

Barbie is available to rent or buy on Prime Video now.
