On the calendar today is National Napping Day. There’s no better day of the week to celebrate this holiday than on a Monday. Go ahead and settle in for nap, but don’t sleep on these headlines from the Lexington Herald-Leader.

A few minutes before the NCAA Tournament Selection Show was officially scheduled to begin, the television was on in the Calipari home, and Kentucky’s players, coaches and support staff were gathered around, watching intently.

The first of several bills seen by many in the LGBTQ+ community as anti-transgender is closing in on final passage in the Kentucky legislature — but it may change significantly before it does.

Some legislators have been working overtime to add language from their bills, including one that contains restrictions on transgender student bathroom use, to a Senate bill that is moving in the House. More on this story from Herald-Leader reporter Austin Horn.

A bill is advancing through the legislature that would change how the state’s school chief is approved. Under current law, the Kentucky Board of Education hires the commissioner and the governor appoints state board members who are confirmed by the Senate.

But that could change with this bill.
