Mansfield man jailed after breaking woman's ribs in assault

A man has been jailed for attacking a woman and breaking her ribs.

Kier Morrison lashed out at his partner during an argument at her home in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, on 10 November.

Nottinghamshire Police said a single punch to the stomach area left the woman with two broken ribs, and punctured one of her lungs.

Morrison, 30, was jailed for 14 months and handed a restraining order at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday.

The order means he is banned from seeing or contacting his victim again.

Morrison, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm.

PC Ashley Lewis said: "The level of aggression shown by Morrison in this incident was completely unacceptable and left his victim with serious injuries.

"While he may have only thrown one punch, the force he used behind it was still enough to break two of this woman's ribs and puncture one of her lungs."
