Man's death after arrest by El Paso police under investigation

A death investigation is underway after a man died Sunday after being taken into custody by police in South El Paso, a police spokesman said.

The incident began about 3 p.m. on April 14 when El Paso police officers went to check on a man who was walking in and out of traffic in the area of Alameda Avenue and San Marcial Street, police said.

The Sunday's death occurred just days after a man allegedly firing gunshots was killed in a police shooting during a SWAT standoff Thursday on the West Side.
