MANITOWOC — Manitowoc Public Utilities recently received a high honor.

The utility earned a Diamond-level Reliable Public Power Provider designation from the American Public Power Association for providing reliable and safe electric service.

This is MPU’s third consecutive time winning the highest designation — and the fourth time overall of earning a designation — from the power association.

The Diamond-level designation lasts for three years and recognizes public power utilities that demonstrate proficiency in four key disciplines: reliability, safety, workforce development and system improvement.

Criteria include sound business practices and a utility-wide commitment to safe and reliable delivery of electricity.

MPU joins 250 public power utilities nationwide to hold this recognition.

The association helps electric utilities track power outage and restoration data through a special tracker service. The association’s reliability team compares local data to national statistics tracked by the U.S. Energy Information Administration for all types of electric utilities.

“I am very proud of our employees and their hard work,” MPU General Manager Troy Adams said in a news release. “This puts MPU in a great position to provide value to our community now and into the future.”
