Man seriously injured after falling onto Devon rail line

A man has life-threatening injuries after falling from a footbridge onto a rail line in Devon.

Officers were called to the incident, between Seaway Lane and Cockington Lane in Torquay, at about 10:00 BST, Devon and Cornwall Police said.

Trains were delayed between Newton Abbot and Paignton while emergency services attended the scene.

Devon and Cornwall Police said the man was not hit by a train.

British Transport Police said its officers also attended and "the victim was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries".

The lines had reopened but disruption was expected through the afternoon due to an additional fault with the signalling system, track operator National Rail said.
