A woman was leaving a check cashing business in Houston, Texas, about 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 7, the Houston Police Department’s Robbery Division said in a news release on Sept. 19.

A man approached her, pointed a gun at her and demanded her keys, police said. He took her keys and got into the truck, the release said.

Another man witnessed the incident and rushed to the woman’s aid, officers said. Video released by the police department shows the man trying to pull the thief out of the truck. He punches the man who fights back, hitting him in the head with a gun, video posted by KHOU 11 shows. Another person then rushed to the scene.

The helping man is thrown to the ground as the truck pulls away quickly, footage shows.

KHOU 11 identified the good Samaritan as 73-year-old Simon Mancilla Sr., a father of three, grandfather of 11, and retired construction worker. Mancilla needed medical treatment and stitches after the incident, the outlet reported.

The truck in the video has not been recovered and investigators are still trying to identify the man who stole it, police said in the Sept. 19 news release.
