Man kills brother with knife in dispute about a car in New Orleans, police records say

A dispute between two brothers in New Orleans ended with one killing the other with a knife, according to police documents.

The June 9 argument between Darren Mercadel and Andrew Mercadel was about a car, NOLA.com reported, citing the police records.

Darren Mercadel, 27, is accused of stabbing his older brother, who drove away before being found dead in his Nissan Rogue, officials said.

Authorities arrested Darren Mercadel on Tuesday after he turned himself in. He now faces a second-degree murder charge, the New Orleans Police Department announced.

Andrew Mercadel was 30. Police said his wife told authorities that he called her and said he had been stabbed by his brother before his death.

The argument between the brothers reportedly took place in front of a home in the 9th Ward neighborhood of the Louisiana city.

It’s unclear how the car prompted the disagreement.

In a tweet Tuesday morning, New Orleans Police said the arrest of Darren Mercadel was made by the department’s Violent Offender Warrant Squad and by U.S. Marshals.
