Man killed near basketball court in Mueller-area neighborhood park, APD says

Police are investigating the homicide of a man at a Mueller-area neighborhood park in East Austin, according to a press conference held Wednesday night.

Based on information from witnesses, police preliminarily believe it was an isolated incident, with no threat to the public.

After 9 p.m. Wednesday, police responded to a report of a shooting in the parking lot near the basketball courts at Bartholomew Park, near the intersection of East 51st Street and Berkman Drive, Austin Police Department senior officer Wesley Belcher said.

The unidentified victim was found inside his car with one gunshot wound to the abdomen and was transported to a local hospital, Belcher said. The man did not survive.

Police did not provide a motive for the shooting and did not specify whether they had identified the gunman.

The Austin Police Department could not be reached for comment as of Thursday morning.
