Man killed in house fire in Genoa Township

GENOA TWP. — A man was killed in a house fire Wednesday, Dec. 20, in Genoa Township, according to the Brighton Area Fire Authority.

Firefighters from BAFA and other surrounding agencies responded to reports of a residential structure fire around 7:30 p.m. on S. Hughes Road, according to BAFA Deputy Fire Chief Brian Siriani. Firefighters arrived to find a working fire, with flames and smoke, Siriani said.

Neighbors told firefighters there could be someone inside the house. Firefighters located the middle-aged man, who was unconscious and had no pulse, Siriani said. Livingston County EMS performed CPR and life support measures, but the man was pronounced dead.

Firefighters extinguished the fire. Siriani said the home is still standing, but is uninhabitable.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Siriani said. There were no other injuries.
