Man identified as pedestrian killed in fatal Highway 41 crash in Fresno, coroner says

The 54-year-old man killed on Fresno’s Highway 41 this week was identified by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office.

A section of Highway 41 was closed off for about three hours after a fatal collision about 5:45 a.m. Wednesday north of the McKinley Avenue on-ramp headed north that killed a pedestrian, the California Highway Patrol said.

The coroner’s office said he was David Preciado of Fresno.

A 25-year-old Kerman man was driving a 2016 Toyota Scion TC north on the highway when a pedestrian standing on the center median ran into traffic, according to CHP.

The driver was unable to avoid a crash and struck Preciado, CHP said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver was taken to Saint Agnes Medical Center with minor injuries, according to CHP. He was not suspected of being impaired.

Officers could not say if the pedestrian was impaired by drugs or alcohol, CHP said, and a toxicology report was pending.

The north side of Highway 41 was at a full closure after 6 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2022, after a vehicle hit a pedestrian north of the McKinley Avenue entrance, the California Highway Patrol said.
