A man drove a car into the Staples store in Orleans. Here's the latest.

ORLEANS — A man who drove a car into the Staples office supply store just before noon Saturday brought firefighters to the scene at 136 Route 6A. The incident took place at 11:40 a.m. Saturday. Orleans Fire Chief George Deering said the driver was evaluated for treatment and refused to be taken to Cape Cod Hospital.

Orleans firefighters and a Barnstable County technical rescue crew braced the outside of the building after the crash. Outside the store, Deering said the town building department and the property owner were working with the fire department to stabilize and make the building safe. The building will be secured, and repaired at a later date, Deering said.

Staples is part of a shopping plaza off Route 6A with a wide parking lot in front.
