Man charged in shooting death of 56-year-old Aiken man

A 61-year-old man was arrested in connection to the shooting death of an Aiken man Thursday night.

Vance Mack Fleming, 61, was arrested on scene and is being held at the Aiken County Detention Center pending the issuance of an arrest warrant for murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to a news release from the Aiken County Sheriff's Office.

Just before 7 p.m. Thursday, Aiken County deputies responded to the 1400 block of Sparkleberry Lane and found an unresponsive man, later identified as William J. Collins, 56, of Aiken, with a gunshot wound to his head, according to news releases from the sheriff's office and Aiken County Coroner's Office.

Collins was pronounced dead at the scene and will be autopsied in Newberry, South Carolina, according to the coroner's office.
