It's that time of year again. You're either panic-scrolling on Amazon looking for that perfect holiday gift for your significant other or family member — or looking for something "safe" that you know they won't particularly love, but also won't hate.

But fear not! The Buckeye State, and the Columbus area in particular, have talented entrepreneurs and vintage shops where you can find cool gift items, art pieces, jewelry, and a host of other trinkets to create an amazing and unique gift basket for that special someone.

The Dispatch compiled a list of stores and shops in central Ohio where you can shop local and create an amazing and one-of-a-kind gift basket for the holidays.

Located at 220 E. Kossuth St. in German Village, Schmidt's Fudge Haus takes pride in their quality chocolates and old-fashioned fudge that people travel for miles to get. They've been visited by celebrities like Martha Stewart and Adam Richman from "Chefs vs. Food," and have been voted as the fourth-best fudge in the U.S. by Southern chef Paula Dean.

Schmidt's is passionate about producing the highest quality fudge and has mastered the handmade craft. Among their products are a pound of assorted gourmet chocolate, a chocolate sampler box, and other specialty fudge items that will go perfectly with any gift basket.

Glenn Avenue Soap Company

In 2009, Dr. Sandra Metzler and her partner, Phil, embarked on a journey to create healthy and effective skincare products for her family. Using her background in biomedical engineering and her knowledge of chemistry and aromatherapy, she started making soap in her kitchen on Glenn Avenue in Grandview Heights, Ohio.

Not only does the Glenn Avenue Soap Company sell soap, but the shop at 1166 W. 5th Ave. also has tailored products for your friends or family who may be allergic or have sensitive skin and who have different scent palettes, including mint, citrus, lavender, and even beer-scented.

The Book Loft of German Village

While Kindles and other electronic devices for reading have the public in a chokehold, there are those who still enjoy the smell of a physical book and the sound and smell of pages turning. The Book Loft of German Village, 631 S. 3rd St., has just what you need for your local bookworm.

Besides books, the Book Loft sells tie-dye and special edition T-shirts in all sizes. And if you're not sure what kind of books to get for your bibliophile, the Loft has a "mystery box" option where their booksellers will shop for them from their 32-room bookstore. And, they'll throw in a tote bag along with the mystery box.

Wild Cat

Founded in 2005 under a different name, the Wild Cat emerged as a craft outlet in Columbus and has developed into a store for unique Columbus gifts with a feminist edge to them. Located at 3515 N. High St., Wild Cat prides itself as a destination for fun, creative gifts and unique party supplies in Columbus and dedicated to feminist ethics.

Wild Cat's products include gifts for your home, body, and gifts in different themes such as pop culture, social justice, tarot and mysticism, and feminism.
