In scenes yet to air in the UK, Lauren learned during a commitment ceremony that Jono had been messaging Ellie in private. Lauren explained to the Daily Mail that the situation brought up some painful past memories for her at first.

"It just triggered old things that have happened in the past, so I was really emotional about it," she recalled. "The one thing I found that was a major red flag for me was that I wasn't mentioned once [in the texts]."

Lauren also acknowledged that she didn't think she and Jono would have lasted as a couple regardless, saying: "I don't think things would have been any better if that didn't come out, because we were talking about a few weekends we'd had, and it'd been consistently good for us, and that's just not going to last in the real world."

Despite the shock of the development, Lauren said that she feels happy for Jono and Ellie, acknowledging that they were far more compatible than the matches provided by the experts during the experiment.

"I could not be happier for Jono. Me and him were forced to be together, we didn't choose each other, and we gave it our absolute all," she said.

"I honestly could not be happier that they found love, because Jono and I weren't in love.

"It was difficult because we'd have a really good week, a really shitty week, and it would take us to point one," she added.

"[But] we didn't have that [connection] and they are great together. I couldn't [root for] them harder, to be honest."
