Macon man killed in Monday night car crash near historic Fort Hawkins on Emery Highway

A 72-year-old Macon man died Monday night in a two-car wreck on Emery Highway just east of Coliseum Drive.

Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said the victim, Lewis Moore, was pronounced dead at a local hospital in the wake of the 9 p.m. crash.

The collision happened at the four-lane highway’s intersection with Fort Hill Street near Fort Hawkins.

Bibb sheriff’s officials said Moore, who was driving a Chevy Cruze, was headed east when he made a left turn across the highway and was struck by a westbound Pontiac G8.

The Pontiac’s driver, whose name was not noted in a sheriff’s statement, was being treated for injuries and said to be in “stable condition.”
