Mackinac Island named top summer travel destination by USA Today

MACKINAC ISLAND — It’s no secret that Mackinac Island is a great place to plan a vacation.

Readers of USA Today agree, with the island taking the top spot in its best summer travel destinations list for the second year in a row.

According to USA Today, “Between Michigan’s Upper and Lower Peninsulas, you’ll find Mackinac Island, where you’ll ride on horse-drawn carriages along car-free roads, observe fudge being made (and then sample it), and tour the historic Fort Mackinac. This Lake Huron-based continental island is also home to Mackinac Island State Park, where you can hike, bike, kayak and take photos of the local natural beauty, including the stunning limestone Arch Rock.”

With Mackinac Island in the number one spot, other destinations on top 10 list include: Ocean City, New Jersey; Catalina Island, California; Cody, Wyoming; Laurel Highlands, Pennsylvania; Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, Alabama; Door County, Wisconsin; San Juan Islands, Washington; Ocean City, Maryland; and Space Coast, Florida.
