There was an interesting moment during Sunday’s Patriots-Dolphins game. New England Patriots rookie quarterback Mac Jones was seen winking at Miami Dolphins linebacker Elandon Roberts.

It was a brief moment, but one that stirred up some interest from the media. On Wednesday, Jones revealed what happened.

At today’s press conference, Jones explained that it was just a fun moment between him and Roberts. He revealed that Roberts accurately called out the Patriots’ play in the middle of it.

“Yeah, I mean, it was just kind of fun and games,” Jones said, via NESN. “It was just in the middle of a play. They actually called out our play. So, I was like, ‘Ah, nice catch.’

” … Just fun and games.”

Mac Jones was solid in his debut for the Patriots in Week 1. The rookie out of Alabama completed 74-percent of his passes for 281 yards and a touchdown in a 17-16 loss to the Dolphins.

No doubt the Dolphins were able to figure some of Jones’ plays out as they gave Jones his first taste of live NFL football.

We may see Jones winking at a few more players before the season is over. Unless, of course, Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has something to say about that.

The Patriots’ next game is this Sunday against the New York Jets at 1 p.m. EST and will air on CBS.
