Luke Getsy, a record-setting quarterback for the Akron Zips in 2005 and 2006, was fired as offensive coordinator of the Chicago Bears on Wednesday.

This season the Bears finished 18th in the NFL in points per game at 21.2. They had the sixth-worst passing offense in the NFL, averaging 182.1 yards per game.

In addition to Getsy, the Bears also fired quarterbacks coach Andrew Janocko, receivers coach Tyke Tolbert, running backs coach Omar Young and assistant tight ends coach Tim Zetts.

Getsy has been the offensive coordinator for the Bears the past two seasons. Prior to that, he was the quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator for the Green Bay Packers. He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant in Akron from 2007 to 2008.

Getsy still holds the Akron record for passing yards in a game with 455 against Memphis in 2005. When he left Akron, he still had the school record for touchdowns in a season and touchdowns in a single game. Both records have since been broken.
