Ludacris’ manager, Chaka Zulu, wounded in fatal Atlanta shooting

A deadly shooting in Atlanta left one dead and two wounded, including Ludacris’ longtime manager, Chaka Zulu.

Police responded to reports of shots fired in a parking lot in Buckhead, an upscale neighborhood in the area, around 11:35 p.m. Sunday and found three men with gunshot wounds, according to the Atlanta Police Department.

All three were taken to the hospital, where one was pronounced dead.

Zulu, who also co-founded the Disturbing Tha Peace record label, was shot but remains in stable condition, sources told WSB-TV Monday.

A spokesperson for the Atlanta Police Department did not immediately return a request for comment from the Daily News Tuesday.

The man fatally shot was identified Monday as Artez Benton, 23, the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Ludacris has not commented publicly and his team did not return a request for comment from The News.

No arrests have been made and police have not publicly identified a suspect or motive for the deadly shooting.

Zulu has managed Ludacris for more than two decades, guiding him through 11 records. In 1998, the pair formed Disturbing Tha Peace Records, along with Zulu’s brother Jeff Dixon. The label, now a subsidiary of Def Jam South Recordings, has been home to artists including Chingy, Shawnna, Bobby V, Playaz Circle and Lil Scrappy.

Earlier this year, Zulu was honored by the Atlanta Hawks as the ninth recipient of the “Forever 404 Honors,” given to 12 local community members “who are committed to serving Atlanta and embody a unique combination of cause, culture and community.”
