Lucid Rounds Out Air Lineup With Two New TrimsLucid

It has been just under 13 months since Lucid began making its first Air Dream Edition deliveries. In the time since, we’ve watched the Grand Touring and Grand Touring Performance models join the lineup while we wait for the range-topping Air Sapphire to arrive with its tri-motor setup. Lucid is ready to fill out the other end of its lineup now, releasing new information about the Air Pure and Air Touring models, the latter of which will start deliveries to early customers today. Here’s everything you need to know about these all-new electric sedans.

The Lucid Air Pure represents the entry-level offering from the Newark, California-based automaker. The car is slated to be offered in both rear- and all-wheel drive configurations, underpinned by Lucid’s Long Range Battery Pack. This 88-kWh pack contains 18 modules as opposed to the larger pack’s 22, which makes it a bit lighter and more compact. The automaker says that this makes the sedan even more efficient, providing an EPA-estimated 410 miles of range in an all-wheel drive configuration. That’s impressive considering the Air Pure will provide 480 hp to all four wheels. The more affordable rear-wheel-drive Air Pure could see its range figure jump even higher than 410 miles, but Lucid notes that that model won’t be ready until next year. The Air Pure and Air Touring models feature aero tweaks that bring the coefficient of drag down to just 0.197, which is the lowest of any vehicle on sale today. Those changes will be applied to the entire lineup moving forward. The Air Pure is also the first Lucid model to adopt an aluminum roof in place of a glass unit, which helps to shave weight.

If you get a bit aggressive with the accelerator and drain your battery, every Air Pure also comes supported by Lucid’s Wunderbox charging technology, which allows owners to add up to 200 miles of range in just 15 minutes. Other highlights include Lucid’s DreamDrive advanced driver assistance system as standard equipment, while the more advanced DreamDrive Pro system with 32 sensors is an option. Both systems are backed by over-the-air updates to improve performance over time. The interior of the Air Pure you’ll find a familiar PurLuxe interior, which is made from a durable leather alternative and 100 percent recycled woven textiles.

The Lucid Air Touring sits at the heart of the sedan lineup, and is what the automaker calls the quintessential version of the car. The Touring is exclusively offered with an all-wheel-drive platform, underpinned by the same 88-kWh battery pack as the Air Pure. The Touring brings quite a bit more performance to the table however, offering 620 hp. That allows the sedan to do 0-60 mph in just 3.4 seconds. Despite the increase in performance, the Air Touring is actually the most efficient Lucid model to date thanks to its 4.62 miles per kilowatt hour rating. That means the sedan should be able to provide an EPA-estimated 425 miles of range.

The Air Touring also features the same metal roof as the Air Pure, but customers do have the option to spec the brand’s Glass Canopy. Inside, the Air Touring provides a more luxurious experience than the Pure, thanks to the addition of carbon-neutral Nappa leather mixed with the aforementioned textiles.

Production of the Lucid Air Pure is slated to begin next month, with the automaker hoping to have deliveries begin before the end of the year. The car will start at $87,400. We expect the rear-drive version to undercut that figure when it arrives. The first customer examples of the Lucid Air Touring were delivered today, so expect to see that trend continue as we wait for the Pure and Sapphire models. The Air Touring lineup starts at $107,400. That’s not cheap, but it is quite a bit more attainable than the $154,000 price tag carried by the Grand Touring model. Which version of the Air has you most intrigued? Let us know down below.
