Lucid Will Build a New Sub-$50,000 Electric SUV Starting in 2026
Lucid has confirmed it will build a new high-volume mid-size electric SUV with a starting price "around $48,000."
Lucid CEO Peter Rawlinson confirmed the new, unnamed model earlier this week during the company's first-quarter earnings call.
The mid-size platform is slated to begin production sometime in late 2026 at Lucid's AMP-2 factory in Saudi Arabia.
Lucid's lineup will triple in size in the coming years, growing from one to three electric vehicles. While the Lucid Air sedan is currently the only model on sale, it will be joined by the new Gravity SUV starting sometime later this year. A third model with a base price under $50,000 will follow in a couple of years, according to Lucid CEO Peter Rawlinson.
During the company's first-quarter earnings call earlier this week, Rawlinson confirmed that Lucid will build a new mid-size electric SUV. He also said that it will be a high-volume model with a starting price "around $48,000." The plan is for the new mid-size platform to begin production sometime in late 2026 at Lucid's second Advanced Manufacturing Plant (AMP-2), which is located in Saudi Arabia.
"I'm confident that we can achieve unrivaled levels of efficiency for this crucial mid-size-class vehicle," Rawlinson said on the call. "And again, I can't stress enough, efficiency is the key to a smaller battery for any given range, and a smaller battery is a key element to lower cost when it comes to making an EV."
No other details were provided about the unnamed upcoming Lucid. As for its sub-$50K starting price, that will make it about $20,000 less than the least expensive Air costs today. Of course, that projected price likely doesn't account for inflation, and it's possible that Lucid will be able to lower the sedan's price even more by that time as the company leverages the economies of scale. Pricing hasn't yet been announced for the Gravity, but we expect it to start around $80,000.
