Journey brings Freedom Tour to USA

Classic rock group Journey brings is Freedom Tour 2024 to the Hub City on Friday, March 22, at United Supermarkets Arena.

Special guest will be Toto.

Formed in San Francisco in 1973, the band as of 2024 consists of guitarist/vocalist Neal Schon (the last remaining original member), keyboardist/guitarist/vocalist Jonathan Cain and keyboardist/vocalist Jason Derlatka, drummer/vocalist Deen Castronovo, bassist Todd Jensen, and lead vocalist Arnel Pineda.

Some of their top hits include "Who's Crying Now", "Open Arms" and "Don't Stop Believin'".

Steven Curtis Chapman coming to Hub City

Steven Curtis Chapman is bringing brand new music on his upcoming tour, “Still Tour” at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 23, at the the Lubbock Memorial Civic.

LSO to perform Verdi

Texas Blues legend to perform at Cactus

Jimmie Vaughan, Texas Blues legend, is set to perform at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, at the Cactus Theater.

In true Texas fashion, four-time Grammy-winner Vaughan has helped breathe new life into the music that has been his lifeline all these decades, becoming a hero to those who cherish America’s real gift to musical history.

Last fall, to help celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the first of the "Blues, Ballads and Favorites" albums, "The Pleasure's All Mine" compiled both albums as a collection, and was released alongside a vinyl re-issue of 2016’s "Jimmie Vaughan Trio" featuring Mike Flanigan "Live at C-Boys" release, which featured songs recorded at the venerable Austin nightspot that Vaughan and crew call home when they are in town.

Special guest will be 20-year-old Mathias Lattin, who won first place at the 2023 International Blues Challenge in the band category and was awarded Best Guitarist by the judges. Lattin is an emerging young Texas guitarist and product of the acclaimed Kinder High School for Performing and Visual Arts.

Flatlands Dance presents 'The Roaring 20s'

Flatlands Dance Theatre presents "The Roaring ‘20s: Glitz, Glam, Music, and Dance of the Jazz Age" at 7:30 p.m. on March 29 and 30 at the Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts Firehouse Theater.

Flatlands Dance Theatre invites audiences to travel back to the 1920’s through music and dance. Sit back with a drink in hand and prepare to be swept away by a jazz ensemble accompanied by thrilling, cabaret-style dances representing the 20’s in America.

Prior to the show, there will be custom cocktails at a cash bar.

Gilmore to perform at Cactus

Jimmie Dale Gilmore returns to the Cactus Theater stage at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 29, with special guests West Texas Exiles.

Gilmore has been writing and playing songs for more than 50 years. His music eludes categorization - blending elements of folk, rock, country, blues and bluegrass. His recordings have earned three Grammy nominations in both Contemporary Folk and Traditional Folk categories and he was named Country Artist of the Year three years running by Rolling Stone magazine.

His high and lonesome vocal style, coupled with sometimes mystical and poetic lyrics, has led to musical brandings such as Sagebrush Soul, Zen Country and Western Beat. Along with Joe Ely and Butch Hancock, Gilmore’s legendary band The Flatlanders has been credited as fathers of the alt-country movement.

With influences from The Flatlanders and Buddy Holly to Vampire Weekend and Jason Isbell, opening act West Texas Exiles are re-invigorating the music scene with a modern interpretation of the Lone Star vernacular. Though they met in Austin, three of the members grew up in Lubbock: Eric Harrison, Trinidad Leal and Colin Gilmore (Jimmie Dale's son). Singer Marco Gutierrez (formerly of Dirty River Boys) grew up in El Paso and singer/keyboard player Daniel Davis hails from Amarillo.

Collective pays tribute to G'n'R, Eagles

The Caldwell Collective presents The Magic of Guns 'n' Roses and the Eagles tribute at 7:3o p.m. Saturday, March 30, at the Cactus Theater.

These legendary groups both had their start in the '70s and' 80s and are still two of America's most loved bands drawing some of the largest crowds in history. Their music is indeed magical and with the additional magic of the Caldwell Collective, this is guaranteed to be a night you won’t forget.

Green, Morrow featured at Team Luke for Hope concert

Team Luke Hope for Minds is ready to bring back the boys of Texas Country at our Inspiring Hope Concert.The event is set for 8:30 p.m. April 3, at United Supermarkets Arena.

Opening the evening, the Hub City Drifters, a group of collective members in the Lubbock country music scene paying homage to classic country greats, Panhandle heroes, and West Texas legends.

Headliners will be Pat Green, a Grammy nominated singer/songwriter with his long-time friend, Cory Morrow. Pat has sold more than two million records and had several Top Ten hits on the Billboard Country Radio chart and twelve No. 1 hits on Texas Radio.

Cory Morrow, also a Texas native singer/songwriter has sold over 200,000 albums independently and his 2002 release "Outside the Lines" reached No. 28 on Billboard's Country Album chart. In an interview in 2020, Cory said he wants his music to give people "Hope and let them know that they're loved."

Pat and Cory attended Texas Tech University and played many of Lubbock's local bars. Back in 2001, they released an album together called “Songs We Wish We'd Written” that debuted on three Billboard Charts in the first week.

SPC’s Groove Day to feature Robinson

LEVELLAND – The South Plains College Commercial Music Department will host its second-annual Groove Day, featuring the world’s most recorded drummer, John JR Robinson. The event will begin at 10 a.m. on April 6 at the Tom T. Hall Production Studio in the Creative Arts Building on campus. Admission to Groove Day is free.

Robinson’s work is featured on hits by talented artists including Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga, Madonna, Lionel Richie, Diana Ross, The Weeknd and many more.

Groove Day will be sponsored by DW Drums, Aquarian Drumheads, Paiste Cymbals, Remo Drumheads and Innovative Percussion. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early when the doors open at 9:30 a.m. to register for sponsor prize drawings.

The event will then start with a free masterclass by Phillip Smith, SPC director of percussion in commercial music, followed by Robinson’s masterclass.

Ahead of Groove Day, attendees can register to participate in the Groove Contest that will take place at 1:30 p.m. Each contestant will perform five compulsory grooves as well as a groove of their choice. A panel of judges will award prizes to the winners. Participation will be limited, but all ages and experience levels are encouraged to participate. Registration can be completed at https://www.spccreativearts.com/grooveday/ and will be first come, first served.

At 3 p.m., attendees can participate in a Q&A session with Robinson. Following this session, he will conduct a private masterclass at 5 p.m. Students with valid IDs from SPC and other schools can participate in the private masterclass at the cost of $50, and non-students can participate at the cost of $100. Space will be limited.
