LSU women's basketball at Auburn: Score prediction, scouting report

LSU women's basketball hasn't lost to Auburn since the 2019-20 season.

On paper, it's look safe to say that the win streak will continue this weekend when No. 7 LSU (16-1) travel to the Plains to meet Auburn at 2 p.m. Sunday in Neville Arena. The contest will be broadcast on ESPN.

Kim Mulkey and the Tigers have rattled off 16 straight wins, most recently defeating Texas A&M Thursday at home, 87-70 while Auburn (11-5, 0-3) dropped a close one to Ole Miss, 58-55 in Oxford, its third straight Southeastern Conference loss to open league play.

In all three of LSU's conference games, at least four players have scored in double figures in each game – the entire starting five has tallied at least 10 points each in the last two.

LSU women's basketball having more fun playing together

Coming into 2023-24 season, there were plenty of new faces entering the program, with the likes of guard Hailey Van Lith and Aneesah Morrow, already touting their own playing styles and identity cemented. LSU needed time on the court together. And while the season's 17 games old, Mulkey's starting five all played in only nine of those.

The more time Angel Reese, Flau'jae Johnson, Mikaylah Williams, Morrow and Van Lith have gotten together on the floor, the more enjoyable the process has become for LSU's stars.

"Typical process of building team chemistry, like we're not immune to the natural process of that," Van Lith said. "We're getting to know each other better, we're getting around each other more often.

"Now we're playing tough competition, so it's bringing out that competitive fire in all of us. I would say we're definitely having fun."

Angel Reese going for 50 straight games with 10+ points

Reese, last season's Most Outstanding Player in the NCAA championship win for the Tigers over Iowa, has played in 49 games for LSU. She has scored in double figures in all 49 games.

With another 10-plus point outing at Auburn Sunday, Reese can become the first LSU players to accomplish that feature since legend Seimone Augustus did so. Augustus put together a streak of 97 games.

Auburn scouting report

Everything Auburn does starts and ends with senior guard Honesty Scott-Grayson, who signed with Baylor and Mulkey out of high school. She played one season in Waco before transferring to Auburn.

Scott-Grayson puts up 15.5 points per game and averages almost four rebounds. Behind her, the Tigers don't have another player averaging double digits in scoring.

Auburn's inconsistency will be troublesome for Johnnie Harris' team in the matchup against an ascending LSU squad.
