LSU, Grambling State women to meet this winter in Bossier City's Brookshire Arena

A double set of Tiger women’s basketball team will meet this winter in the Brookshire Grocery Arena when Kim Mulkey’s Tigers battle Courtney Simmons’ Tigers in a non-conference game.

The contest will feature former Parkway All-Stater Mikaylah Williams against former Mansfield All-Stater Kahia Warmsley. Williams was both a Shreveport Times All-City Player of the Year and Times Female Athlete of the Year during her playing days, while Warmsley, who played for former Lady Techster Kendra Neal, was a Shreveport Times All-Area Player of the Year.

“We could not be more excited to bring LSU to Mikaylah’s hometown of Bossier City in December to play Grambling State,” Mulkey told the USA TODAY Network. “Mikaylah grew up there and it is always special to be able to bring one of our player back to play in their hometown. She has a lot of fans in North Louisiana who have been following her for a long time and will want to come and see her along with the rest of our team. Furthermore, it is always great to be able to bring LSU to different parts of the state because there are people who bleed purple and gold all across Louisiana.”

The game is slated for Dec. 8, and it will be the fifth all-time meeting between the two programs with LSU in front 4-0.

Simmons has created a dramatic turnaround with the GSU program going 23-10 overall, 15-3 in the SWAC last season, surpassing the 20-win mark for the first time since 2002-03.

“Having an opportunity to bring the spotlight that's shining so bright on women's basketball right now to North Louisiana is huge. I hope ALL the Tiger fans across the state come out and support both teams," said Simmons in a release.
