LSU baseball sets SEC Tournament history with two grand slams in single game, including one from Tommy White

LSU baseball continues to be rolling at the SEC Baseball Tournament, and so is "Tommy Tanks."

In the top of the eighth, Tigers third baseman Tommy White launched a 95 mph fastball off of Kentucky pitcher Jake Titus opposite field into the right field bullpen for a grand slam to put the Tigers up 11-0 against the 2-seeded Wildcats.

White's grand slam made some history at Hoover Met Stadium on Wednesday for LSU, as the Tigers became the first team in the 607 career games played in the SEC Tournament to hit two grand slams in the same game. Jared Jones had the other grand slam for LSU on Wednesday.

The St. Petersburg Beach, Florida native White finished 2-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs, two runs and a home run in LSU's win over Kentucky.

"Hitters decide when to swing. I decide when not to swing, that's just the way I go," White said postgame on the SEC Network of his approach at the plate on Wednesday, as he swung at eight first pitches. "You got to be ready for every single pitch but the one you're not ready for tends to be the fastball one right down the middle, so I try to be ready for every pitch in the zone and attack it."

White has been one of the hottest hitters in the country over the last seven games, as the Tigers' slugger is 20-for-36 (.555) at the plate with 17 RBIs, 10 extra-base hits, nine runs scored and six home runs. He has joined Florida's Jac Caglianone and Georgia's Charlie Condon as some of the top players to watch in the College World Series.

That wasn't the only grand slam the Tigers had on the day as Jones took one deep in the top of the seventh inning, breaking open the game to 7-0. Jones' grand slam was the first LSU grand slam in the SEC Tournament since May 24, 2008 against Alabama.

The Tigers, who have won nine of their last 12 games since the start of May, have now scored 20 runs in two games at the SEC Tournament against 7-seed Alabama and Kentucky.

LSU will now wait to learn its next opponent in Hoover, as it will take on the winner of 2-seed Arkansas vs. 10-seed South Carolina at 4:30 p.m. CT on Thursday, May 23.
