LSU baseball's starting pitching staff found itself in a heap last weekend at Mississippi State.

The Bulldogs attacked Luke Holman, Gage Jump and Thatcher Hurd early and often in at-bats and counts, leading to a lack of execution at many points during the Tigers' opening 2024 SEC series. Through the team's first 18 games, that was something LSU coach Jay Johnson hadn't really seen from his starters as the Tigers went 1-2 in Starkville, giving up 33 runs over three games.

But it's a new weekend and No. 4 LSU (18-4, 1-2 SEC) and its staff have another opportunity to collect itself against top-level, SEC competition as it welcomes No. 8 Florida (12-8, 2-1 SEC) to Alex Box Stadium in a matchup of last season's College World Series championship series.

Johnson won't be changing up the rotation as Holman will go against the Gators, followed by Jump on Saturday and Hurd to close things Sunday.

LSU did win its midweek game leading up to the Florida series, defeating instate foe Louisiana Tech, 11-1, Tuesday night at home.

The same can't be said about Florida, who dropped its midweek game Tuesday night at Jacksonville, 7-6.

Preseason SEC player of the Year, Jac Caglianone will lead the Gators into Baton Rouge as he's hitting .414 with 24 runs scored and 21 RBIs. He's smashed nine home runs in 20 games. Caglianone has also started four games, with a 2-0 record on the mound, striking out 34 batters in 20⅓ innings pitches while giving up four earned runs.

LSU baseball's SEC series against Florida will be broadcast on SEC Network for Game 1 on Friday and Game 3 on Sunday. Streaming options for Game 2 on Saturday include the ESPN app as well as FUBO, which offers a free trial to potential subscribers.
