LSU baseball aims to close out its nonconference schedule with a 24-3 record as it hosts in-state foe Northwestern State at Alex Box Stadium Tuesday night.

At this point, finishing their midweek slate with a victory is crucial for the Tigers (31-18), who are squarely on the bubble of making the NCAA Tournament field. And they can't afford a loss to the Demons (19-28), who have a 175 RPI.

Thanks to a series win against No. 1 Texas A&M this past weekend, it's third straight SEC series win, LSU has played its RPI up to 34 — it was down at 50 two weeks ago but going 7-3 in its last 10 games have inched Jay Johnson's team closer and closer to the bubble.

Pitching has been the stabilizer for the Tigers of late. Gage Jump and Luke Holman have been dazzling and LSU has seen quality starts from freshman Kade Anderson in the midweek games.

Northwestern State isn't the most threatening of lineup. It's best hitter, Reese Lipoma bats .309 with 24 RBIs and 47 runs scored. However, NSU's pitching has been sharp for much of the season, including midweek starter Kevin Robinson, who has a 3-1 record with a team-best 2.57 ERA.
