New Love Live Game Gets Announced And Canceled In One Tweet

The Love Live! franchise has been around for quite some time now, spanning a host of anime, albums, figures, and video games. The next mobile rhythm game in the series has just been announced to be getting localized into English. It’s also been announced to be shutting down.

The official twitter account for Love Live! School idol festival 2 MIRACLE LIVE! – that’s the full name of the game, but we’re just going to call it School Idol Festival 2 – revealed today that the game is finally getting a western release this February, after launching in Japan in mid-April 2023.

“We are excited to break the news to you that the global version of Love Live! School idol festival 2 MIRACLE LIVE! is launching soon in February 2024,” the account wrote in a tweet.

“However,” the exact same tweet continued, “we also want to inform you that the Global Version will close its doors on May 31, 2024, and cease in-app purchases accordingly. We appreciate the love and support you've shown, and we're committed to making these last few months an unforgettable moment.”

That’s right, in just one tweet, the game was announced and canceled. I’m honestly not sure that’s ever happened before, usually there’s a couple days and a couple tweets between it, but publisher Bushiroad seems to have speedrun the entire process in just a few moments.

It’s not particularly surprising, given the Japanese version of the game was also announced to be shutting down, except that version is going the way of the dodo at the end of March instead of May like the western version.

The good news, though, is that you’ll still be able to pour as much money as you want into the game when it launches in February. For those three months before the game shuts down, you can live like a king. And then it’ll all go away. Forever.

(Note: please do not spend money in microtransactions on a game that’s going to shut down almost immediately.)
