Lourdes coach celebrates 500th win as his daughter coaches Carrollton to first district title

The Carrollton girls’ basketball team won its first district championship in school history.

In the District 15-3A finals, the Cyclones defeated Ransom Everglades 65-39. Senior Sofia Travieso led with 25 points, and freshman Alissa Azcuy added 20 points.

Also scoring: Gaby Garcia-Pons 7 pts; Sela Travieso 6 pts; Jojo Salazar 5 pts; Sharella Lee 2 pts.

Carrollton (14-4) advances to regionals on Thursday against Somerset Silver Palms-Homestead.

Carrollton is coached by Allison Bustamante, and she made her dad very proud.

Speaking of him...

Her step-father, Chris McKeon, also made history as his girls’ basketball team won a district title.

McKeon recorded his 500th win as the Lourdes girls’ basketball team beat Southridge 66-23 for the District 16-6A championship.

Luciana Picasso scored 16 points, and Ana Sofia Sanchez totaled 12 points.

Also scoring, Sophie Sandoval 8 pts, Michelle Falero 8 pts, Amanda Duran 8 pts, Isabella Perez 6 pts.

The Bobcats improved to 13-7. Lourdes also plays Thursday in a regional match-up against Blanche Ely.

Bustamante played at Lourdes from 1997-2001. McKeon was an assistant coach until Bustamante’s senior year, when he took over, and he’s been in charge ever since.

Bustamante even coached with him at Lourdes from 2007-16.

Freshman Jasen “J-Roc” Lopez of the True North boys’ basketball team scored his 1,000th career point in a 92-72 win over Lake Worth Christian.

Lopez finished with 24 points, 9 assists, 8 steals, and 4 rebounds. In 38 games, he averaged 27.5 points per game to reach the historic milestone.
