Louisville Cardinals fall to Florida State Seminoles in 2023 ACC Championship Game

FSU wide receiver Keon Coleman (4) couldn't hang onto the ball under pressure from Louisville's Quincy Riley (3) during first half action as the Louisville Cardinals faced off against the Florida State Seminoles in the 2023 ACC Championship game at Bank of America Field in Charlotte, NC, on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2023.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — History is within reach.

After making the ACC championship game for the first time, No. 14 Louisville has a chance to win its first ACC title when it faces undefeated No. 4 Florida State. The Cardinals and Seminoles have played each other every year since U of L joined the conference in 2014 but the stakes are higher this year. Though FSU leads the series 17-6, the two teams are 3-3 in the last six meetings.

While Louisville coach Jeff Brohm said the Cardinals wanted to get as many players healthy as possible for the game, Florida State isn't in the same situation. The Seminoles may be down to third-string quarterback Brock Glenn, a freshman, depending on the availability of backup quarterback Tate Rodemaker, who was ruled a gametime decision.

FLORIDA STATE 16, LOUISVILLE 6 (4Q, 2:19)

FSU's Ryan Fitgerald kicked a 40 yard field goal.

FLORIDA STATE 13, LOUISVILLE 6 (4Q, 3:11)

The Seminoles extended their lead with a 33-yard field goal from Ryan Fitzgerald to cap off a six-play, 34-yard drive. Trey Benson was the star of the series with 33 yards on three carries.

FLORIDA STATE 10, LOUISVILLE 6 (4Q, 13:36)

A 33-yard field foal from Brock Travelstead made this a one-touchdown game. But chalk it up as a missed opportunity after U of L advanced the ball to FSU's 7-yard line and failed to reach the end zone.

FLORIDA STATE 10, LOUISVILLE 3 (3Q, 6:20)

Running back Lawrence Toafili's 73 yard run — the second longest in ACC title game history — set up a 2-yard run for the game's first touchdown. The Seminoles have been using Toafili in the Wildcat formation.

FLORIDA STATE 3, LOUISVILLE 3 (3Q, 7:02)

Kicker Brock Travelstead made a 36-yard field goal to tie the game during the Cardinals' first drive of the second half. They recorded 56 of their 140 total yards of offense during the series.

FLORIDA STATE 3, LOUISVILLE 0 (2Q, 10:32)

After a first quarter that saw a combined eight punts, FSU opened the scoring with a 45-yard field goal from Ryan Fitzgerald.

The kick capped an 11-play drive for the Seminoles covering 50 yards in 5:01. They benefitted from two Louisville penalties; Jarvis Brownlee was flagged for pass interference, then Ashton Gillotte was called for unnecessary roughness.

Brock Glenn likely to start at QB for Florida State football

Freshman Brock Glenn will likely draw the start at quarterback for Florida State.

Tate Rodemaker warmed up, but it does not seem like he will start.

Glenn was observed in pregame warmups and throwing the ball to the starting receivers and running backs and then later taking snaps with the first-team offensive line. It would mark Glenn's first career start.
