A lottery player kept the momentum going from his South Carolina scratch-off win by asking his girlfriend to marry him.

She said yes.

The Upstate man bought a High Roller ticket for $5 at a convenience store in Greenville and took it to his car to scratch it, the South Carolina Education Lottery said in an April 19 news release.

When he saw his $200,000 prize, he had to sit there for a while taking it in, he told lottery officials.

Then he followed up the good news and asked his girlfriend to marry him.

“It was a great experience, a blessing,” he told lottery officials.

He beat the 1-in-750,000 odds of winning one of four top prizes in the High Roller game, which debuted Feb. 20, according to the South Carolina Education Lottery.

Greenville is about a 100-mile drive northwest from Columbia.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
