Lottery player grabs last two tickets left in Michigan game. One was worth $4 million

A man was so shocked to learn he won millions in the Michigan lottery that he ran out of the store in excitement.

One of his Diamond 7s tickets — which were the last two left — was worth $4 million.

“I was in complete shock!” he told the Michigan Lottery.

The 42-year-old Macomb man told lottery officials he likes to play the $20 and $30 instant tickets, and he had a few to cash in while at the store, according to a Dec. 28 news release.

When he got up to the counter at the Meijer store in Bad Axe, about 50 miles northeast of Bay City, he saw there were only two Diamond 7s tickets left. He purchased both of them, scratched the barcodes, and had the clerk scan them right then, the release said.

One of the barcodes suggested he file a claim, the release said.

“As soon as I scratched the winning symbol and saw ‘4MIL’ underneath, I grabbed the ticket and ran out of the store,” he told lottery officials.

The man, who chose to remain anonymous, visited lottery headquarters to claim his prize and selected a one-time lump sum of $2.5 million instead of 30 annuity payments for the full amount. He plans to buy a home and save the rest, he told officials.

“Winning is such a blessing, I still can’t believe it’s real,” he said.
