Lots of People Are Confused About Nothing Bundt Cakes—Here’s Why

There’s a TikTok going around that’s rattling the oven doors of the Internet. The idea that the national chain Nothing Bundt Cakes is not—I repeat, not—a little local bakery as many people apparently thought.

Podcaster and author Eli Rallo shared her confusion with the word in her TikTok. Countless commenters chimed expressing their shock that the chain is not the little mom-and-pop bakery that they thought it was.

"I thought that the national bakery chain Nothing Bundt Cakes was a local, small-town family-run business," Rallo says in her video, which has garnered over 95,000 likes. Rallo says in college she heard someone else talking about it and realized it was actually a national chain, with more than 500 bakeries across the U.S. and Canada.

I have to admit, I was in the mom-and-pop camp too because I didn’t grow up with one of the pinstriped awnings in my hometown and didn't see one until a couple of years ago. My first experience (and the realization that it was not a local chain) was at a holiday party last year where I promptly fell in love with a cute little Lemon Bundtlet.

And it's easy to understand the confusion. The cute logo, the charming awning and the punny name are all giving small-town vibes. It makes you believe that it’s a little local shop with, as Rallo puts it, "a grandma in the back and it's her recipe." But not so. Rallo's comments and DM's blew up on her Instagram and TikTok, with many others just coming to this realization.

"When they opened a second one in the nearby town I was like omg that’s so great for them, their (sic) expanding!!" says one commenter. Others note the deceptive nature of other brands that are actually national chains, including Jeni's Spendid Ice Creams, Bruegger's Bagels, Great Harvest Bread and Kilwins. Another Tiktoker said she thought Jersey Mike’s was only in New Jersey.

Following the TikTok confusion, we wanted to give you the whole story and not just some half-baked facts (see what I did there?) about the national chain. Here's what you need to know.

  • Nothing Bundt Cakes has been around since 1997 and opened its first bakery in Las Vegas. It has now grown to more than 500 locations nationwide, making it the nation's largest specialty cake company.

  • They offer 8-inch, 10-inch and tiered bundt cakes as well as personal bundt cakes called Bundtlets and Bundtinis, which are minis sold by the dozen.

  • Their flavors are standard—you’ll be able to find your classic vanilla, carrot, confetti, lemon and red velvet—but they also offer speciality flavors, like churro dulce de leche, white chocolate raspberry, snickerdoodle and chocolate chocolate chip. And yes, they have pumpkin spice.

  • Nothing Bundt Cakes is a franchise, which means that there may be slight variations in pricing, local loyalty programs, and discounts depending on the location.
