Lost dog shows up at another SC home months later. Now she’s back in her spot on sofa

When Lola the dog wandered away from a backyard, her South Carolina owner feared the worst.

“She had been missing since (September) and presumed dead,” said Facebook user Michael Stewart, who also worried that his dog was alive but being mistreated.

Then months after his beloved pet disappeared, a family living about 45 miles away got a furry surprise. Kim Voiers told WHNS she sent her kids to bed on Jan. 8 before they yelled: “There’s a dog in our room!”

It turns out, the front door to their Spartanburg home wasn’t completely closed, leaving space for the dog to slip into the bedroom. The family fed the pup and brought her to an animal hospital for an evaluation, Voiers wrote in a Facebook post.

She said her family also wanted to check for a microchip, which stores information about pet owners. That led to an emotional moment, as the dog was identified as Lola the long-lost pet.

“I immediately got in touch and was excited to hear she was alive and then just in tears when I saw the pictures of her so skinny and emaciated,” Stewart told McClatchy News on Facebook messenger. “I still can’t believe that she managed to go 40 plus miles from home without somebody picking her up and dropping her off.”

Stewart believes his dog went missing after she slipped out of her collar in the Piedmont area. During his search, he distributed posters and tried to find the pup through social media, to no avail, WHNS reported.

“I’m incredibly grateful to the family that found her and that she found them,” Stewart told McClatchy News. “It made me laugh that she just walked into somebody’s house, ate their pet food and then went to a bedroom.”

That was fitting for Lola — who her owner describes as a “total princess.” After she reunited with her owner, she “immediately resumed her spot on the sofa” and started on a path to recovery.

“We’re currently feeding her extra and babying her trying to get her back to her healthy self,” Stewart wrote. “A good bath and lots of snuggles and home cooking seem to be putting a little weight on her quickly.”

Voiers didn’t immediately respond to McClatchy News’ request for comment on Jan. 11.
