Lorry driver in hospital after M5 bridge crash
A lorry driver has been taken to hospital with potentially serious injuries after his vehicle collided with a bridge on the M5 in Worcestershire, West Midlands Ambulance Service has said.
The crash happened near junction eight (Strensham Interchange) at 08:34 BST on the northbound carriageway.
Two ambulances, a paramedic officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance Critical Care Car attended the scene.
The injured lorry driver was treated for his injuries at the scene before being taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.
A spokesperson for National Highways said the bridge had not been damaged by the impact but a stretch of safety barrier had and needed urgent repairs.
The junction eight northbound entry slip road was closed while these repairs took place but has since reopened.
