Looking for a Thanksgiving Day activity in Indianapolis? Make a run for a cause
There is not a whole lot going on in Indianapolis on Thanksgiving Day. Sure, a couple of megastores are opening with limited hours and there's a nifty towering Nutcracker Palladiscope projection show in Carmel.
But anyone looking for events on the day, are going to have to make a run for it.
The area offers a plethora of runs and walks; many benefiting local causes. Some offer the chance to donate virtually.
Should you be so moved, here are a couple to keep in mind.
Wheeler Mission Drumstick Dash
9 a.m.
1426 Broad Ripple Ave., Indianapolis
4.3 mile and 2.6 mile courses
Proceeds benefit Wheeler Mission, serving those experiencing homelessness.
Family Fun Turkey Run
8:30 a.m.
Perry Meridian High School, 401 W. Meridian School Road., Indianapolis
4-mile run; 1-mile, kid-friendly run/walkProceeds support YMCA programs and membership and the Perry Meridian High School Cross Country Program.
2023 FitLivin THXRUN
6 a.m.
Dr. James A. Dillon Park, 6001 Edenshall Lane, Noblesville
4-mile run/walk; 1.5-mile run/walk and a free kids quarter-mile run
Supports Hemophilia of Indiana, a non-profit organization that serves over 1,400 Indiana patients and families affected by a bleeding disorder. Proceeds from this year’s event will go to Hemophilia of Indiana’s Judy Moore Memorial Scholarship Program.
Turkey Burn 5K Run/Walk
2 p.m.
100 Surina Way, Greenwood
5k and kids run/walk
All proceeds go to local schools to help fight child hunger.
Bolt for the Heart -Thanksgiving Day Run
9 a.m.
Carter Center Green and Palladium, Carmel
5K run/walk
Supports the Bolt for the Heart mission to equip law enforcement officials with automated external defibrillators.
