Looking for a Bloomington area high school sports youth summer camp? Check these out

School will be out soon and the high schools in the Bloomington area will offering a spate of sports camps for kids of all ages this summer.

Here's a rundown of camps being held by coaches at Bloomington North, South, Edgewood, Eastern Greene, Lighthouse Christian and Owen Valley. Check back frequently for any additions to the lineup as this story will be updated when we receive new offerings:

BASEBALL

Cougar Baseball Camp

WHEN: Grades 7-8: June 10-13 (9 a.m.-noon); Grades K-6: June 17-20 (9 a.m.-noon). WHERE: Bloomington North baseball field.

DESCRIPTION: Improve your throwing, catching, fielding and hitting fundamentals. Participants will play in game competition. Emphasis will be placed on fundamentals and fun. North head coach Richard Hurt will direct the camp along with assistant coaches and North players. T-shirt included. Participants should bring a baseball glove, bat, cap, cleats or gym shoes (with name on all personal items. T-shirt, baseball pants or sweatpants are recommended.

COST: $100 for one child; $180 for two children; $255 for three. Make checks payable to Cougar Baseball Camp. South Baseball Camp

WHEN: June 4-7 (Grades 3-5 upcoming school year) 10:30 a.m.-noon; (Grades 6-8) 12:30-2 p.m. WHERE: Bloomington South baseball field.

DESCRIPTION: Camp for boys led by South head coach Phil Kluesner.

Edgewood Boys Basketball Camps

WHEN: May 28-31 (Grades 6-8) 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.; (Grades 3-5) 1:15-2:30 p.m.; (Grades K-2) July 8-11, 2:30-3:45 p.m. WHERE: Edgewood High School gym.

DESCRIPTION: Camp run by Mustangs head varsity coach Matt Wadsworth.

Edgewood Future Lady Mustangs Basketball Camp

Lighthouse Girls Basketball Camp

WHEN: June 10-14, scrimmages on June 15 (Grade 3-5 for 2024-25) 9-10 a.m.; (Grades 6-8), 10:30 a.m.-noon. WHERE: Lighthouse Christian Academy gym.

DESCRIPTION: No playing experience is necessary. Come have fun and learn the basics of basketball. Camp is run by varsity girls coach Brian Brown. Players would wear athletic clothes and tennis shoes and a water bottle. Parents are invited to attend the Saturday scrimmage.

North Boys Basketball Camp

WHEN: May 28-31 (Grades K-3, current school year), 9-11 a.m.; (Grades 4-6), 11 a.m.-1 p.m.; (Grades 7-8), 1-3 p.m. WHERE: Bloomington North gyms (Door N16).

DESCRIPTION: All skill levels and basketball experience backgrounds are invited and encouraged to attend. Campers should bring a water bottle and wear athletic attire and athletic shoes. Free t-shirt for those who pre-register.

Elementary camps: Camps will be conducted by the North coaching staff and players. Focus will be on individual skill development through a variety of engaging drills and competitions. Items of focus will include man-to-man defense concepts and basketball fundamentals including shooting, ball handling and passing. The camp will also reinforce each camper's teamwork, mental and physical toughness and create a winning tradition at BHSN in their futures. Parents are welcome to attend and seating will be provided.

Middle school: Camp will be conducted by head coach Jason Speer and the high school staff. The camp will focus on individual skill development through varsity drills. Items of focus will include man-to-man defense concepts, and fundamentals including shooting, ball handling, and passing techniques. Players will also be introduced to North’s offense and defense, which will better prepare them for their future at the Middle and High School levels. In addition, many players will be asked to participate in a tournament for incoming ninth graders at Martinsville High School June 8-9. Parents are welcome to attend the tournament but not during camp days.

Owen Valley Youth Basketball Summer Clinic

WHEN: June 3-6 and 10-12 (Grades K-2) 1:30-2:30 p.m.; (Grades 3-6) 2:30-3:30 p.m. WHERE: Owen Valley High School (Enter Door 6).

DESCRIPTION: Camp run by Owen Valley boys head coach Matt McGowen and the varsity players. Come learn and work on the fundamentals of basketball while getting to know our high school players and staff.

Jr. Panther Basketball Camp

FOOTBALL

Cougar Football Youth Camp

WHEN: Tuesday-Thursday, July 9-11 (10:30-11:30 a.m. each day). WHERE: Bloomington North football field.

DESCRIPTION: Camp for players in grades k-8 (2024-25 school year) interested in developing football skills and techniques with the Bloomington North football staff and players. Campers will learn throwing, catching, blocking, and safe tackling techniques as well as participate in fun football competitions. All skill levels and football experience backgrounds are invited and encouraged to attend. Players need to bring a water bottle and wear athletic attire with athletic shoes or football cleats. T-Shirt provided on the last day of camp to those who pre-register.

Edgewood Mustangs Youth Football Team Camp

WHEN: June 17-21 (10 a.m.-noon). WHERE: Edgewood football field.

DESCRIPTION: Instructed by Edgewood head coach Scott Fischer, his coaching staff and current Edgewood varsity football players. Campers will receive position-specific instruction in football techniques and skills utilized by the Edgewood youth, middle school, JV, and varsity programs. Campers will begin learning the basic fundamentals and techniques necessary for success at all levels of competition. Each Camper registered by the due date will receive a Mustangs team camp t-shirt. Walk-ins welcome. Please bring water bottle, cleats and tennis shoes, a T-shirt and shorts.

Owen Valley Youth Football Camp

Panther Youth Football Camp

WHEN: June 24-27 (4-6 p.m. each day). WHERE: Bloomington South football field.

DESCRIPTION: Camp for any students in grades K-6 with an emphasis on teaching football fundamentals with Bloomington South's entire varsity football staff. No prior playing experience is required. Campers should wear athletic clothing (shirt, shorts, cleats or tennis shoes). All campers will receive a T-shirt.

GOLF

Cougars Junior Golf Camp

WHEN: May 29 (9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.) WHERE: Cascades Golf Course.

DESCRIPTION: Camp for boys and girls ages 7-14. Come out for a fun-filled day of golf and instruction with the Cougar boys and girls golf team members and staff. Lunch and t-shirt provided. Golfers must bring their own clubs and water bottle; golf shoes not required.

SOCCER

North Youth Soccer Camp

WHEN: June 27-28 (9 a.m.-2 p.m.) WHERE: Bloomington North soccer practice field and football field.

DESCRIPTION: Camp for boys and girls age 8-14 run to improve their technical skills, have fun and be challenged. Experienced coaching staff led by Gonzalo Sanchez will lead age-appropriate activities while teaching players through demonstration and coaching. Campers will have the opportunity to meet and work with current players from both the boys and girls high school teams. Each day's session will include warm-up and technical work from 9-11 a.m. and scrimmages from 1-2 p.m. after the lunch break. Each camper should bring cleats, ball, shin guards, lunch and water. Each camper will receive a t-shirt.

South Summer Goalkeeping/finishing Camp

WHEN: June 10-14 (Ages 8-11) 1:30-5 p.m. (Ages 11-18, 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. part-time; 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. full-time. Three-day options are available. WHERE: Bloomington South (Binford Elementary if needed).

DESCRIPTION: This camp is offered for goalkeepers and field players ages 8-12, and 13-18 who want to take their goalkeeper and finishing skills to the next level. The mission of the Bloomington Soccer’s Goalkeeper camp is to offer professional training for all players at any skill level. The design of the program is a fun, but challenging age-appropriate environment aimed at players' development. Each player will receive a camp mini-soccer ball and goalkeepers will also receive a water bottle.

COST: Full-day and half-day packages for three days or all five days are available for keepers and field players with prices ranging from $94-425. DESCRIPTION: Camp for players heading into 1-8 grades run by North's coaches and players. Improve your skills and have fun. Camp will include: emphasis on fundamentals; skills development; team building exercises; fitness and conditioning drills and friendly competition.

TENNIS

Edgewood Tennis Camp

WHEN: June 3-5 (Grades 3-5) 8-9 a.m.; (Grades 6-8) 9:30-10:30 a.m. WHERE: Edgewood tennis courts.

DESCRIPTION: Camp run by Edgewood girls' head coach Katie Brookman.

TRACK AND FIELD

BHSN Spring Track Clinic

WHEN: May 24 (4:30-8:30 p.m.). WHERE: Bloomington North track.

DESCRIPTION: Clinic is open to children in grades K-6 and all stations will be led by Cougar track athletes. Each participant will receive a t-shirt and choose two events (100, 200, 400, 4x100 family relay) to participate in for the mini-meet at the conclusion of the clinic. Stations will include: Running form and drills, Hurdles for all ages, Long jump/High jump, Shot put (softball for young ages), Relay races & fun running games. Family members can join in. Bring water and a light snack. All funds support the North track program.

VOLLEYBALL

Cougar Volleyball Total Skills Camps

WHEN: Grades 1-6 (2024-25 school year), June 17-20 (9-11 a.m.); Grades 7-8, June 17-21 (1-3 p.m.); Grade 9 Elite, June 17-21 (1-4 p.m.). Three special pre-camp add-ons will be held June 21, 9-10 a.m. WHERE: Bloomington North gymnasium.

DESCRIPTION: Open to all grade school-aged girls and boys of all skill levels from beginner to highly experienced. All campers will receive a T-shirt. Camps for grades 1-6 & 7-8: Whether you want to make your middle school team in the fall or simply want to know more about the game, this camp focuses on movement and overall skills development while providing constant opportunities to improve, compete and have a lot of fun.

Grade 9 Elite camp: This camp prepares incoming freshmen for all aspects of high school level volleyball: development of fundamental as well as advanced techniques and movement patterns, familiarity with and tactical considerations of team offensive and defensive systems, position-specific training, being successful out-of-system, and receiving and applying feedback to your learning process. Also discussion of maintaining balanced health and conditioning within the demanding schedule of a high school student-athlete. Staff will show you how to create individual and team goals and how to correctly connect those goals to your training.

Registered campers may also participate in one of three special pre-camp sessions on June 21: Setters Speed Session; Libero's Toolbox Tutorial and Parent and Player Clinic.

COST: Grades 1-6 ($75), 7-8 ($100), Grade 9 Elite ($120). Special Sessions on June 21 are an additional $30.
