For the past seven seasons All-Star slugger Trea Turner has worn No. 7 for the Washington Nationals. But after being traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers, Turner has a new number moving forward.

On Wednesday, Dodgers insider Blake Harris uncovered an Instagram story revealing that Turner will be wearing No. 6 with his new team. Turner and Max Scherzer were sent to the Dodgers in exchange for Josiah Gray, Keibert Ruiz, Gerardo Carrillo, and Donovan Casey at the trade deadline last week.

Some Dodgers fans have taken to the comments section with objections to the jersey choice though. Many are saying that the number should have been retired years ago in honor of Dodgers legend Steve Garvey.

Garvey made eight of his 10 All-Star appearances for the Dodgers between 1969 and 1982. He wore No. 6 for both the Dodgers and San Diego Padres but only had it retired by the Padres.

Trea Turner is in the middle of his first All-Star season despite finishing top-five in the MVP voting last year.

In 96 games so far, Turner has 125 hits in 388 at-bats with a .322 batting average. He has 18 home runs, 49 RBIs, 21 stolen bases and a .369 on-base percentage.

The Dodgers need Turner to keep playing at this high level if they hope to catch the rival San Francisco Giants in the NL West title race.

Will Trea Turner prove worthy of the No. 6 jersey which has been worn by so many Dodger greats?
