Look: Trea Turner’s Slide At Home Plate Is Going Viral

There’s little doubt that Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Trea Turner is a phenomenal athlete. But what he did at the plate in last night’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies is all the proof anyone should need.

In the top of the sixth inning, with the Dodgers leading 1-0, Turner was on third when Dodgers hitter Will Smith singled right. Turner sprinted for home, trying to outrace the throw to the Phillies catcher by sliding towards the plate.

But in a stunning, now-viral feat of athleticism, Turner not only slid into home for the run, he pushed himself up and did a perfect spin. Only his hand touched the base as he got that 2-0 lead and walked away like it was nothing.

The five-second clip from the broadcast has been shared like crazy ever since the five-second clip was released. On the Dodgers Dougout Podcast alone, the clip has over 2.8 million views, 13,000 likes and 4,000 retweets in the last 12 hours.

“Dope,” Rex Chapman replied.

“This may be the coolest thing I’ve ever seen somebody do on a baseball diamond,” wrote Craig Needles.

“I don’t understand how this is even physically possible. Is he on strings!?!” another fan replied.

The Dodgers went on to win the game, 5-0, further securing their lead in the NL Wild Card standings. Though they still trail the rival San Francisco Giants by several games in the NL West race, they can put a dent in that lead in the coming weeks.

Was Trea Turner’s slide the best slide of the 2021 MLB season?
