Sydney McLaughlin set a world record on way to her gold medal in the women’s 400M hurdles at the Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan on Tuesday night.

The 21-year-old track star, who set a world record at the U.S. Olympic Trials, beat out her rival, Dalilah Muhammad, for the gold medal in Tokyo.

McLaughlin was incredibly humble in her victory. She said that she was simply “grateful” to be able to represent her country at the Summer Olympics.

“Just trusting the process. Giving the glory to God. That’s all. This season, hard work and dedication and just really grateful to be able to represent my country and to have this opportunity,” McLaughlin said following the race.

McLaughlin’s loved ones were much more jubilant in their celebrations – understandably.

“OLYMPIC CHAMPION,” wrote McLaughlin’s boyfriend, Andre Levrone Jr.

He also shared a bible verse: “But those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

McLaughlin has been dating the former NFL player since 2020.

McLaughlin should be one of the biggest Olympic stars in the world moving forward. At 21, she should be in contention for several more gold medals down the line.

For now, though, she can simply enjoy her dominant performance from the Tokyo Games.
