Long before Sean McVay, Kyle Shanahan and Matt LaFleur all had their respective teams in the NFC divisional round, they were colleagues in Washington.

Back in 2013, all three were part of the offensive staff of the Washington Football Team (then the Redskins). Shanahan was the offensive coordinator (his father Mike was the head coach), while LaFleur coached quarterbacks and McVay handled tight ends.

That’s a lot of offensive football knowledge in one place, and we now have a viral graphic to make sure we remember that these three head coaches once worked side-by-side for the same organization.

That picture has to be especially painful to Washington fans. Three of the top young head coaches in the NFL were all with you at the same time, and none stuck around.

Shanahan and LaFleur wound up leaving following the 2013 season, after the former’s father was let go by the franchise. Shanahan became the offensive coordinator in Cleveland and LaFleur moved on to be the quarterbacks coach at Notre Dame.

McVay, meanwhile, stuck around, serving as Washington’s offensive coordinator for the next three seasons before the Rams hired him as head coach in 2017.

This weekend, LaFleur (Packers) and Shanahan (49ers) will meet in one NFC semifinal, while McVay will travel to Tampa to face Tom Brady in the other.
