Derek Jeter might be the biggest name getting inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame today, but Larry Walker made sure to get himself noticed.

At first glance, Walker, an imposing slugger with a bald head and goatee, is not the type of person you’d expect to wear a SpongeBob SquarePants pin in public. But that’s exactly what he did in Cooperstown this afternoon.

The yellow cartoon character adds a little splash of color to Walker’s grey suit and black shirt.

As it turns out, Walker seems to be a pretty big SpongeBob fan. When he found out he was heading into the Hall of Fame back in January 2020, Walker wore a SpongeBob shirt on the air during television interviews.

Walker, a native of Canada, played 17 MLB seasons for the Montreal Expos, Colorado Rockies and St. Louis Cardinals. He finished his career with 383 home runs, 1,311 RBI, 230 stolen bases and a slash line of .313/.400/.565.

Along the way, Walker made five All-Star Games, earned seven Golden Glove awards, won three batting titles and was the 1997 NL MVP.
