Look: Joel Embiid’s Old Tweet About Andre Drummond Going Viral

Andre Drummond reached an agreement with the Philadelphia 76ers in free agency on Tuesday, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The 27-year-old big man came to terms on a one-year deal, giving himself a fresh start in a new city.

Although the situation in Philadelphia seems like a good one for Drummond to come into, he’ll need to put his past with 76ers center Joel Embiid behind him. That might be difficult after one of the big man’s tweets resurfaced on Tuesday after news of the signing broke.

Back in 2018, Embiid, who was the MVP runner-up this past season, took to Twitter to bash Drummond for a lackluster performance. The two players had gone at one another on the court, but in this instance the 76ers center escalated things on social media.

“I own a lot of real estate in @andredrummondd head and I’m on my way to build more #Bum #TheProcess” Embiid wrote on Twitter back in 2018.

With the recent news, it looks like Embiid and Drummond will have to bury the hatchet and patch things up before the start of the 2021-22 season.

Drummond will be eager for a fresh start in a new city after his tumultuous last year around the NBA. After putting up solid numbers with a struggling Cleveland Cavaliers team, the 27-year-old reached a buy-out agreement and made way for the Lakers.

Although he was expected by some to be a major part of the rotation in Los Angeles, Drummond struggled to differentiate himself in a crowded frontcourt. By the time the playoffs rolled around, Frank Vogel had opted to go with Marc Gasol or play Anthony Davis at the five more often, rather than use the Lakers midseason addition.

Drummond ended the 2020-21 season playing in 46 games for the Cavaliers and the Lakers, averaging 14.9 points, 12.0 rebounds and a career-low 1.1 blocks per game.

Despite his down year, Drummond will be just 28 when the next season gets underway and he should be able to carve out a role for himself behind Embiid. Playing as a back-up could rejuvenate the two-time All-Star’s career, but he’ll have to show that he’s willing to accept his spot behind one of the best centers in the league.
