Jay Williams was among Duke’s many former basketball players who attended Mike Krzyzewski’s final game at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

While the game didn’t go the way the Blue Devils planned, the event was nevertheless one Williams will never forget. On Sunday, the former standout guard shared video clips of the proceedings from his vantage point with a tribute to Coach K.

“Yesterday was one of the most special days of my life,” Williams wrote. “Coach K has been by my side since I was 16 years old and he is one of the reasons I am where I am today. Coach K will forever be a legend.”

Few players are as synonymous with Duke basketball as Williams. In three seasons, he averaged 19.3 points, 6.0 assists, and 2.2 steals per game. The two-time first-team All-American won a national title in 2001 and the Wooden Award the following season.

On Friday’s episode of This Just In, the ESPN analyst told Max Kellerman that he wouldn’t be where he was today without Krzyzewski’s guidance during his playing career and after a 2003 motorcycle accident derailed his NBA career.

“Every once in a while in life you run across people that just have something very special about them,” Williams said. “And the way they communicate to you, the way they get you to buy into something bigger than yourself.”
