New-look Folly to reopen with busy week of events; also Kansas City Ballet’s ‘Giselle’

The historic Folly Theater will reopen this weekend after being closed since early summer to undergo a $4.2 million renovation.

The formal reopening will be at 8 p.m. Oct. 15 with “Shake, Rattle and Roll: A Celebration of the Folly Theater,” a concert featuring the Fred Wickham Caravan, Grand Marquis and other local musicians. Tickets are $15, with proceeds benefiting the Midwest Music Foundation, and are available at follytheater.org.

Among the improvements at the Folly are new seating, carpeting and curtains. Capacity has been reduced from 1,078 to 1,005 to accommodate wider seats. The Folly opened in 1900 as the Standard Theater and was saved from the wrecking ball in the 1970s.
