The Dallas Cowboys received some devastating news during today’s practice.

After leaving practice with an apparent foot injury, veteran defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence underwent evaluation. Unfortunately for the Cowboys organization, X-rays came back positive and it was revealed that the team’s leading pass rusher has suffered a broken foot.

He will be out indefinitely.

While this is a devastating blow for both Lawrence and the Cowboys’ defense, the 29-year-old DE is keeping a positive attitude.

“Will be Back & Ready for War. Believe it,” Lawrence wrote on Twitter this evening.

Through just over seven seasons with the Dallas organization, Lawrence has logged 45.5 sacks, 305 tackles and 93 QB hits.

He and the Cowboys’ pass rush were unable to continue this success into Week 1 of the 2021 NFL season. In an opening-game loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Dallas defense failed to record a single sack. Along with the Green Bay Packers, they were the only defense in the league to be held without a single sack in Week 1.

The Cowboys’ defensive line issues don’t just stop with Lawrence. Earlier this week, fellow starting DE Randy Gregory was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Starting right tackle La’el Collins is suspended for the next five games after violating the league’s substance abuse policy and wide receiver Michael Gallup is on the IR with a calf injury suffered in Week 1.

With a slew of missing starters, the Cowboys will look to avoid an 0-2 start against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday afternoon.
